Grant Recipients

JESPY House

An extraordinary program to help young adults diagnosed with learning disabilities and neurological and/or perceptual impairments, achieve their full potential and to lead independent lives. We have supported them annually since 2007 with financial and in-kind donations. Examples of the latter are donations of iPads and computer tablets.  The diverse span of uses enables a range of higher to lower functioning clients the ability to meaningfully enhance their lives.

More recently, with the aging population and related possible health concerns, we purchased Welch ALLEN vital sign monitors for each of the six residential units for use by the nursing staff.

Fisher House

Best known for a network of comfort homes where military families can stay nearby while a loved one is receiving medical treatment.  Professionally furnished and decorated, these homes are located at military and VA medical centers nationwide, close to the medical center or hospital they serve. KFF has funded the entire lodging fee for family member stays at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton since the inception of the facility in 2015.  More than 1000 family stays are so much more than a statistic.  It represents the number of lives that KFF has touched.

Boys and Girls Club of Northwest San Diego

Miracle League of San Diego

An organization that provides children with mental or physical challenges an opportunity to play baseball as a team member in an organized league.  In a unique public/non-profit partnership with the County of San Diego Recreation Department, and with the support of the San Diego Padre professional baseball team, the first ADA accessible ball field of its kind was built in Southern California.  During each Miracle League game, every child is given the opportunity to hit the ball and score a run.  Miracle League team members are assigned buddies who provide encouragement and assist with hitting the ball and running the bases.  Buddies can be fellow schoolmates, adults, college students or anyone who wishes to volunteer his or her time.  KFF grants have been earmarked annually since 2008 to sponsor children for a season.

The largest children’s hospital in California.  It is the only hospital in San Diego dedicated exclusively to pediatric healthcare and is the region’s only designated pediatric trauma center.  We funded the purchase of self-contained, secured, mobile, audio-video game carts designed  to reduce stress and increase the comfort of young adolescent and teen patients.

Valley Beth Shalom Day School

A grade school in Encino, California established in 1978 and staffed by an award winning faculty.  Our gifts of digital and video cameras, webcams, and software have enabled the students to conference live with a partner school in Israel, as well as with NASA scientists in the NASA Kids Program.  We also purchased 21 piano keyboards  and curriculum materials to develop a music education program.  More recently we funded a portion of a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematical) lab. These experiences build a strong foundation for learning both in the classroom and beyond.
